Another UFO Finished !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Picked up my Rectangle Pizaaz On Point....... from Shirley H. who machine quilted it for me....I wanted leaves quilted on it and my did Shirley do a beautiful job of quilting leaves. The quilting is kind of hard to see on this picture......the quilt is kind of bright and busy.

You can see the quilting much better in this picture.
Here's the green corner.....the quilting is done in green thread but you can kind of see it on this picture.
Now to find the green fabric....its somewhere here in a bag with the leftover fabric. Then I can sew on the binding and really have this quilt finished.....YEA!!! I made this top in a workshop in April.....I think and now its done....except for the binding.....and how many UFO have I started since then???? Way too many to think about......off to sew.

Here's Lue-Anne's scrap top from Saturday.....red, white and blue......beautiful.
Last but not least is Barbara W's top......another winner. I really have to finish sewing and get my blocks sewn together.
Betsy picked up a top that had been machine quilted. She's really been busy finishing up some UFO's this year.

A Mystery Saturday

We were stripping down at the library yesterday.......sewing up a storm....making our mystery quilts. The room was very silent as every one sewed and sewed our strips together.......see Dianah below who even sewed while she talked on her cell phone.

The table was loaded with snacks.......ready to fuel our bodies.....as we sewed and sewed.
Here is Joan and Carol......putting sewing pedal to the medal.......the puring sound of sewing machines the only sound to be heard.
My machine with the "new" light attached.......I really like it......I love my machine but the light on it is not the best in the world.......this little light improves and centre's the light on my sewing.....I love it.
The strips were falling on the floor as we had to sew two strips together and do it 50 times.
Ginny did a great job giving us or instructions a step at a time and here she is showing us how to cut our strip sets.
You cut two strip sets at a time.
Cut a 8 1/2 square.....cut it in half.....sew two different sides together and you have a block.
Here is my first big block......4 of the smaller blocks all sewn together.....mine is very scrappy.....I used up lots of left over fabric and even found some all ready cut 2 1/2 inch strips to make mine.
Ginny's finished quilt......she made a controlled scrappy......red, white and blue. Don't you just love it?
Most of the quilters at class went home with all their small blocks sewn......I love these 2 1/2 inch quilts.....they really sew up fast and look fabulous.....this quilt looks like its set on point, but its just a big square block.

Sue's been working with wool and making lighthouses......this one she copied from a potato chip bag.

Here's the second lighthouse Sue made....has lots of buttons on it.
Pegi made this flower basket using needle punch.....cool.
Pat made this beautiful red.....I love red.....quilt......Christmas quilt.
Pat also made this quilt from a kit she bought on vacation.
Our President Janet made this quilt for her husband.....she's made quilts for many people in her family this is the first for her husband,
Judy Q made this quilt rectangle pazzaz on point....turned out beautiful.
She used up all her fabric on the back and pieced it into a beautiful back.
Barbara Edwards bought a top at the last quilt show.......... she added the two borders and now has a wonderful quilt.

More Than Quilts

After we played Quilto last night at our membership meeting we all enjoyed seeing what our fellow quilters were making. Look at the cute rabbet that Sue made....so tiny and so cute.

Sue also made this tablerunner that has felted wool on it. She will be teaching this as a class at Lady Bug Quilt shop...this will be a fun class.
Liz W finished the BOM blocks that she won........she really did a good job adding the pieced border.
This is a close up of Liz's quilt.
Dianah finished up making this doll.
Char made this quilt as a sample for Lady Bug Quilt store......go in there and you can see it close up.
Bob finished sewing on the binding on this quilt that will be a birthday present for his mother.

Large Crowd

Last night there was a large crowd at the Tuesday night sew. At least four people were sewing on their machines.......two of us were cutting out 2 1/2 strips for the workshop on Saturday....the rest of the people were hand sewing.

Can you believe that one quilter is making Christmas presents ???? Wow.....I never even think about Christmas this time of year. Love this apron pattern.....and she's using scraps....not having to buy fabric.....I'm impressed!!
This is a kit from California Quilt Makers to made a baby quilt.....the pattern is call Posh Tot.....love the fabric and I don't think it will take long to sew up. I plan of quilting it myself on my home sewing machine. Next time you are in Turlock make sure and go into California Quilt Makers and check out their cool kits for beautiful quilts.
I bought these batiks at Quilters Cabin big sale last week......I plan on making a lap sized Posh Tot out of these fabrics.
I'm still working on my Mystery quilt and just need to sew up way too many four patches to half square triangle pieces on each side of the four patch......a whole lot of sewing.....when I finish sewing the four patches I will be done with June.....I have all the cutting done for July so I should get everything done before the August and last instructions come out.

South Pacific Saturday

Look what I finished piecing last night......started it last Saturday in Inez's workshop and finished sewing it together last night.......in less than a week!!!! Now I have to sew on a black stopper border and get some fabric for a final border. I love these quilts made of 2 1/2 inch strips....they go together fast and look harder to make then they are.

Attended the play South Pacific today at the Sierra Rep's Historic Fallon House Theatre in Columbia State Historic Park. This is a picture of the quilt store up there.....you know I'd visit a quilt store if I can. I bought a 1/2 yard and FQ of fabric.
You can't go to Columbia without visiting the Candy Kitchen.
I took this picture before the play began......it was a very good play....lots of good music and we had really good seats.

Meet The Teachers.......NCQC

The Wednesday trip to NCQC Meet The Teachers was fun. Ginny and I visited with different teachers and picked up papers on what programs they offer and of course info on workshops. They have a large room with a stage and each teacher gets THREE minutes to talk about themselves.

After three minutes they will come and get the teacher off the stage if they have not finished their talk. Most of them get it done in the three minutes. Guess who's behind this quilt?? Our own Judy Mullen who is on the board of NCQC and was helping hold quilts.
There was a second room where tables were set up and the teachers could spread out their samples and talk to guild reps one on one.
Lots of people attended and I know we all have lots of ideas on who we want to come to our guilds and give programs and workshops. Ginny and I are working on this right now. Figuring out what dates we need to book and then checking with teachers on what days they have open.
Don't forget today and Satuday are the BIG sale at Oakdale's Quilters Cabin.......I'm heading there after work.

Betsy's Quilt

Betsy's been working on this beautiful quilt.......it's going to be a wedding gift for her grandson. She still needs to add the borders but you can see its going to be a beautiful quilt.

Below is a close up of the blocks used in Betsy's quilt........a simple block.....you have to have just the right fabric to make this quilt and Betsy's fabric makes the quilt.
Can't wait to see this quilt with the borders on and quilted.

Its been a busy week. I took a vacation day yesterday and attended Meet the Teachers at NCQC. My fellow VP Ginny drove and we had a good time talking to all the teachers who were there and afterward had a fabulous lunch at the Elephant Bar restaurant.

A Saturday Spent Sewing

Inez gave a workshop for Oakdale quilters and of course I attended......using 2 1/2 inch strips you can make a really cool quilt. Here is a pile of 2 1/2 inch strips that I am sewing together.

I recut the strips and then sewed a black magic square on one edge....sew two of those together...sew four of the units together and you get this block.....neat don't you think. I got all my strips sewn and cut I just have to finish sewing on the magic squares and I can sew more of the block seen below.
Inez was sewing on another project and here she is sewing the blocks together.
This is a picture of four of the block sewn together. She had these blocks all stacked up and ready to be sewn.
I took a close up of the quilt after Inez had it all sewn together.......beautiful.
Here is Inez holding up the black and white quilt......she calls it a charm quilt. This is the same pattern she used in the butterfly quilt I took a picture of and had in my last posting. I must make this quilt.

Quilts and Kits comes to Oakdale Meeting

Teresa Harmon brought her shop to the Oakdale membership meeting last night and we all got to hear about her shop (online and in her home) and buy whatever we wanted. Was fun.

Here's two tables loaded with quilting stuff.......a quilters dream.
The tables were crowded with members shopping.
After a short meeting we all enjoyed show and tell. Deloras is showing a doll make by a member to give to children at the crisis center. Cool doll and I love the look on Deloras face.
This quilt was made by Shannon.....love the colors.
Shannon made this quilt too. She used patterns out of quilting magazines. Don't we all plan on making quilts we see in magazines.....but don't.
Inez made this butterfly quilt using charm squares. All the fabric has butterfly's in it that Inez has been collecting.
A close up showing some of the butterfly fabric.
And last but not least.....Bridget's take five quilt......beautiful.

Two Beautiful Quilts

Quilters braved the heat and met at our Tuesday night sew last night at the library. Look below and see Della's quilt......made in a mystery class. Beautiful.....she just needs to add a wide border and this quilt top will be done.

Bob Q. is making the quilt below for his mothers 86th birthday. He showed it off and then went home to sew the binding on it.

Check out the free motion quilting.
The quilting makes the quilt.........wow!!!!
I worked on getting all the cutting done on the June part of my mystery quilt.....I was so busy I forgot to take any pictures! Now I have a lot of sewing to do. I'm going to be sewing small blocks together to make bigger parts of this quilt.....but its still a mystery to me!

Hot Tuesday !!!!

I leave my house after 6:30 am to drive to work in Turlock. You can tell what kind of day its going to be and today you know it was going to be HOT. It's going to be a hot week....108 by Thursday. The picture below is of a flower that blooms in my front yard on a large bush. It is covered by these flowers.

I finally got a picture of a hummingbird at one of my feeders. I have four feeders scattered around my yard. On these hot days I am making the sugar water to put in them.....1/4 cup sugar to 1 cup of water and then boil in the microwave.

More sunflowers growing from the bird seed in the bird feeder......here is a big bud beginning to bloom.
I noticed last night that the flower is really beginning to bloom so went inside to get my camera.
This is the center of the sunflower......beautiful.
The sun going down through the smoky sky last night.
This is the corn field next to my house......I'm going to take pictures to show you how fast it grows....especially in this hot weather.
I did not get any sewing done last night.....too hot.

Ella's Birthday

Yesterday we traveled to Woodland for Ella's third birthday. It was a hot day and we celebrated outside by the pool. This is Ella's cake made by her mom, Makayle with poke a dots on it.

Ella got to eat the cake all by herself.........lucky girl.....I never got to eat a cake all by myself. Makayle made cup cakes for the party goers and they were good!

We stopped at Ikea on the way home.......after getting lost and walked around checking out the store. I want to go back by myself and really check it out.

No sewing yesterday......I did good, sewed for two days of the long weekend. Maybe I'll get some more sewing done tonight.

Projects Finished !!!!!

I finally finished the May instructions of my mystery quilt......yea !!!! It will be a long time before I make 80 flying geese using magic corners.....it took forever and all the pressing I had to do and then cut that extra part off of the geese and hatchet blocks the half square triangles were easy in compression. Now I can begin sewing some of the parts I have done together.

I also finished Ella's bag......see below. I made it smaller because she only three and I wanted it to fit with her size. I think it turned out perty cool.
I need to get going as I have to pick up Scott and Natalie and drive to Woodland for Ella's birthday party. I want to stop at the Sacramento Ikea on the way back because I've never been to a Ikea store and want to check it out.

A Good Time Had By All

Another 4th of July has come and gone.........I started the day sewing. I wanted to make Natalie a pillow for her couch. I picked up a pillow form and then found this beautiful fabric. Don't you just love it. I had to buy two yards!

Here is the finished product.......on Natalie's couch. She loves it and now wants another......took less than an hour to sew. I don't know if I want to part with any more of this fabric.
Lots of good food to eat at Scott's and Natalie's........I brought this dip.....cream cheese covered with salsa......got to help out the dairymen and buy cream cheese.
Later......way after it was dark we had a few fireworks.....fun.

Got home real late.....for me and am just getting up and around this morning.......I did get some sewing done on my mystery quilt.......did way too much pressing and now need to un-sew some of the flying geese because I can't sew in a straight line. Lots more sewing to do today.....off to sew.

Happy 4th Of July !!!!!

A holiday and day off and I wake up this morning the same time as if my alarm was set.....go figure. I was able to go back to sleep.....because what is a day off if you can't sleep in.....I need to get up and go take a shower and start sewing on my mystery quilt. Yes.....I am posting this morning from my bed......I love my lap top...I go get it.....sign onto the internet and read the morning's news while sitting here in bed.

Have a fun and safe holiday. I will be going over to Scott's and Natalie's for a bbq at 4:00.....she thinks her mother can't be alone on the holiday.......but I don't care and would sew all day if I could, but it will be nice to see them and his mom and dad will be there too and maybe by then I'll need a break from sewing.

Bella Bella Saturday Workshop part 2

I took pictures of the quilts Norah had on the wall so I could look at them as I am sewing my quilt and remember what the quilt will look like when it is finished.

Here is a close up of the kite border......Norah told us it was paper pieced......of course that's how it comes out so good.......look at those points!!!
The colors and fabrics she used in this quilt are so right.......they all work together to make a beautiful quilt.
Toward the end of the afternoon, we learned how to sew the wedges together....matching up the lines in the wedge with pins and then sewing it together. Norah demoed how to finish our quilt once the center circle and wedges are all sewn together.
Norah sat at her sewing machine and sewed the corner piece to the strips that make up the border....she also demoed how to machine applique the center circles.
I hope I remember all those details Norah went over with us when I get to the point of finishing my quilt.

I have no plans for the fourth of July holiday......so I'm going to sew all day.......maybe catch up with my mystery quilt and work on some other projects.
