Sad News.....

I found out today that R Lily Stem quilt store in Modesto is closing down. They closed down the store on Sunday January 27 and will reopen on Thursday for the liquidation sale. Sad news. Marilyn is going to move to San Diego to be closed to her son and his wife and of course her grandson.

To read more about it go to the R Lily Stem web site here.

Rainy Tuesday

It rained all the way into work this morning. I wanted to stay in my warm bed under my quilts but couldn't do it.....have to wait till Saturday. It's suppose to rain all week.

The quilt below is made by Joan and hand quilted. It is finished and will be in the Manteca Quilt Show the first weekend of March. I took this picture last Tuesday night at our sew night.

Here is a close up of the quilting......it hard to see.
This quilt was sewen together by Sandy for a friend who's Mother embroidered the blocks. Sandy then machine quilted it on her sewing machine. Good job.
Here is a close up of one of the blocks.
Stay dry.....if I didn't have to be at work I'd be home sewing and baking.....two things I love to do when it's raining.

Philanthropy Saturday Sew

Saturday was philanthropy sew for my Oakdale Quilt Guild. I sewed three sandwiched quilts and top stitched around them. See picture below of one of the quilts I finished. I also sewed three tops together.

One of our members was working on these blocks for a philanthropy quilt. She found the pattern on the internet and used FQ's to make it with.
Delores has taken over philanthropy this year. It was her birthday on Saturday and here is her ice cream birthday cake. And no....she's a bit older then four.
Here is Dolores with her cake.

Here is one of the tables we had set up to sew on. We did lots of sewing and lots of talking.
The picture below is of the pile of quilts and tops that we all sewed on.
It always feels good to sew philanthropy quilts, someone who needs a quilt will be receiving one of our quilts.

Friday......Allready?

I have a lot of pictures to show you today.....so it will be a long post. Below is the second block of embroidery that I am working on. I took this picture on Tuesday at the Tuesday sew group. I have more done and will finish this block this week.

The picture below is of the flannel (the blue cowboy fabric is cotton) fabric I purchased at the Quilters Cabin big year end sale. Two quilts will be made with these fabrics. On the right I will be making a small baby quilt and with the fabric on the left a BQ for my mom.
Here is a close up of the BQ quilt fabric. The fall leaves will be the big squares, the dark green the line fabric and the light fabric the background.
Here is a close up of the baby quilt I am making for a family friend.
This is a kit for a top......the Japanese ladies and flowers are a panel and the orange and blue are the borders.
I also got two FQ packs and the charm packs.
The is a picture of a class project from Cloth and Quilts......meet the teachers was last Monday night. Love the colors in this small quilt.
This is a class too......love the way its done.
Another view of the quilt.
Last night was the membership meeting for my Oakdale Quilt Guild. Wasn't much show and tell. Here is a quilt from Stacye, last years mystery quilt from Quilters Cabin. I really like the fabric she used and she machine quilted it herself.

A close up of the machine quilting.
I will be sewing tomorrow. Have a good weekend.

What Am I Working On?

I have been busy......working on this embroidery project. I'm picking out the colors and not going by the example colors that the kit gives......what fun is there in that? I'm one of those people who likes to do my own thing. I've backed the fabric with thin batting.....gives it body and threads from the back do not show on the front.

This is my first finished block......isn't she cute? This project is keeping me busy at night while I watch TV.
The blocks will be sewn together and made into a small quilt. Who's it for? That's a surprise. Have a good weekend.....stay dry.....the big storm is here.

Happy 2008

Happy New Year.....hope you all had a enjoyable new year. It was a very quiet new year for me...I was in bed by midnight and spent most of yesterday in bed still fighting a cold.

Below is a picture of Natalie and Scott, taken at Christmas.... who are planning an April wedding. I will be the mother of the bride in 2008.....better get started on their wedding quilt!

The fabric below was bought at the Cloth and Quilt year end sale on Friday. I do have a quilt in mind.....just wait and see.
Close up of the main fabric......I have 3 yards.
Got a yard of this fabric......
And a yard of this.....
Love this gold flower fabric.....another yard bought.
I hope to finish more quilts this coming year. 2007 was a banner year for me.....I finished lots of quilts. And of course there is a California king wedding quilt to make.....oh boy.
