X Block Workshop Tomorrow

Last night Patricia Pepe gave the program at our (Manteca) membership meeting. Today and tomorrow Patricia is teaching a workshop, X Block... for Manteca quilters. Today is the beginner class and tomorrow is the advanced class. I am taking the advanced class. Below is the latest pattern that you can make with two different sizes of the X block ruler. The stars are made with a 3 inch ruler and the stripes with either the 6 or 7 inch ruler. Cool.

Here is a popular pattern made with the ruler......you make a 9 patch block with light fabric in the middle of the 9 patch and dark on both sides.....then you re-cut the block and lay it out and you have this wonderful quilt.
A small X block used in the center of a 9 patch block.
A different color way for the X block above....love the batik's used.
Here is a small X block quilt.
Blue and Yellow.....
A very fall looking x block.
Black and white made with the x block.
The possibles are endless......class is going to be fun tomorrow.

What Color Crayon ??

You Are a Red Crayon

Your world is colored with bright, vivid, wild colors.
You have a deep, complex personality - and you are always expressing something about yourself.
Bold and dominant, you are a natural leader. You have an energy that is intense... and sometimes overwhelming.
Your reaction to everything tends to be strong. You are the master of love-hate relationships.

Your color wheel opposite is green. Green people are way too mellow to understand what drives your energy.
What Color Crayon Are You?

One of my favorite colors.....who knew? This is a fun test to take. What color crayon are you?

Another One Bites The Dust

Lue-Anne brought this beautiful blue quilt that she is finishing for an Aunt who started it many years ago. She is a beginner who is growing as a quilter.

I sewed the back together last night at the Tuesday night sewing group for Scrappier then Scrappy. The borders are done and I took this picture last night. Its very bright! Now to get it to Debi and she will machine quilt it for me. I'm taking a mystery class from her on Oct. 7th so Scrappy is ready to go. You finish one and start another. I was busy cutting out 4 1/2 inch red squares for Debi's class last night.

Manteca Quilters membership meeting is Thursday night and as usual I still have not sewn up my block to the month. I have it all cut just need to sew it together. Dianah was in charge of the block of the month for September and she choose a Christmas fabric design....maybe I'll win and have another UFO to add to my stack.

It Rained On Saturday !!

I woke up to rain on Saturday morning......the plan was to drive to Livermore and Quilting in the Garden and help sell opportunity quilt tickets. Well it didn't happen......Sandy called me...left a message on my answer machine..... to tell me it was raining and that they didn't hang the quilt from the trees.....they displayed them in the buildings at the nursery. I called Sandy back and learned it was pouring down rain and we didn't need to come.

Below is the view from my back door.....lots of puddles.

I talked to Joan later that night and she told me only one bus showed up at the show....but they did sell a few tickets and everyone remarked on how beautiful the quilt is. It rained in Livermore till 3:00 pm.
By noon most of the rain was over with......I headed to Modesto to shop. Joann's was having a sale and I needed to use my 40% off coupon. Found some fabric to buy so it was not a wasted day. I finished sewing the borders on my Scraper then Scrappy quilt so now I need to get the backing sewn together so it can be machine quilted. After the rain fall is really in the air. Time to sew more quilts so we will be warm this winter.

Finished Projects

Here are pictures of all the projects I worked on at my retreat. The quilt below received the mitered borders. First time I've mitered a border. Need to buy backing and then off to be machine quilted. I only had 8 blocks sewn when I left on the retreat. I had the rest of the blocks cut and ready to be sewn. I finished sewing the blocks......sewed them together and then added the black stopper border. Last night I sewed all the piano keys together for the final border then sewed on the top and bottom border.....just have to sew on the side borders.
The is the X block quilt......I added more blocks to make it bigger and then added two borders. Just need backing fabric and then off to be quilted.
I had this lap quilt all cut out......I sewed it together and added a border. I want to get a dark green flannel and add another border.
Made two pillow cases......for a little boy who will be three in October.
These blocks are not mine......LuAnne made these blue mumbo gumbo blocks.....she's new to quilting and doing a wonderful job. Can't wait to see the finished quilt.

Retreat 2007 part 2

We all completed lots of projects while on our annual retreat. Below is a small sampling of what was worked on.Teresa made the Christmas cheater quilt below and the BQ that she used fruit, veggies and nuts fabric in.
Diana made the apple wall hanging and table runner. My finished top are on the bench....hard to see....I will take them to the library sew tonight and get better pictures so you can see them.
On Saturday Twain Harte had a city garage sale. Below are the treasures that I found. I collect hammered aluminum and paid $5 for the ice bucket, the tin was sitting in a box with fabric, no quilting fabric but I opened up the tin and old sewing stuff was inside....again paid $5 for it. What fun....I love going to garage sales.
We had a fabric coiled bowl class and here are the bowls we made.....my bowl is the large brown one up front. This is the biggest bowl I've made so far......what fun.
The people who own the cabin live in the bay area and there are quilts in the cabin so the woman is a quilter. Here is a close up of a beautiful simple quilt that is on the sofa.
A picture of the whole quilt.
And here is a picture of the whole group except Pat who had to return home on Friday morning, she had a retreat from her church to go to. This picture was taken Sunday morning before we headed to the Sonora quilt show and then home.
Pictures tomorrow of my completed projects.......I did get a couple of tops done.
