Program with Lyn Mann

At the membership meeting last Thursday night Lyn Mann gave a program on borders. She showed us many quilts and how she goes about adding borders that are not just plain fabric. She uses many pieced borders.

Love the border on this quilt.....very different.
This picture is not real clear....but she used little baskets in the border.
I like this quilt.....but you can't see the border.
I really like the dark background in this quilt.
Red and black.....who doesn't like red and black....look at the border.
Lyn likes to use curves and that is what the workshop was all about.
Love this red quit.....
This is her carmel quilt......she collected many different carmel colored fabric to make this quilt.
Yesterday seemed like Monday....but it was Tuesday.....I love having a holiday but the week after is hard to get use to. I visited the movies on Monday and watched the new Indiana Jones movie.....very good. If you like that type of movie.....go see it. Pictures tomorrow of the Saturday workshop with Lyn.

Lots of cool quilt kits, patterns and if you like to embroider there are lots of pre printed quilt squares to do.

Have a good Memorial weekend. I don't plan on doing too much....workshop tomorrow and then maybe the movies either Sunday or Saturday.

Windy Thursday

I know we all hate the wind that has been in the valley for the past few days. The dust that is in the air is just horrible. Tonight at Manteca Quilters Lynn Mann is giving us her program on borders. Can't wait to see her quilts and here about borders.

Below is the fabric I bought Saturday at Quilters Cabin before I went to the Chocolate Fest. I'm really trying to use colors that I'm not drawn to......those colors would be any color that is not RED or PINK. Red and Pink are my all time favorite colors. So for this class I picked purple. I don't know why my camera does not pick up the colors right. The color that looks yellow is really more gold to match the purple batik on the left. The fabric in the middle is a dark purple. Marie at Quilters Cabin has the best selection of batiks in this area. I love to drive over and see what's new.
Stay tuned.....pictures of the program tonight will be here tomorrow. And I will be taking lots of pictures of the workshop on Saturday....Throw Tradition A Curve.

Don't get blown away.

It Was HOT on Saturday

It was very hot on Saturday at the Chocolate Fest. Too hot to be selling tickets on a quilt. Many people who we yell.....Win This Quilt for $1.....looked at us like we were crazy! But we did manage to sell a few tickets. I didn't think there were as many people attending as last year......I think the heat kept them home...and maybe the high price of gas.

I think the booth looked good and people either liked the quilt or said it had too much black. I love the quilt and would like to win it.....but after winning the Manteca quilt last year I do believe my luck will have run out.

Oakdale's 2008 Opportunity Quilt

The tickets are printed and the quilt is done. It's beautiful!! Love the bright colors with the black. Drawing is to be held on December 11, 2008.

Here is a close up of the quilting.......done by Herd of Turtles.
Another close up of the quilting and bright colors.
I will be at the 19th annual Oakdale Chocolate Festival tomorrow, Saturday selling tickets for this quilt. If you are going to brave the hot weather and attend please look me up. I'm working between 11:30 and 2:00. If your not going and would like to buy a ticket.....I'll have them at the next Manteca Quilters meeting on the 22. Stay COOL, stay inside and sew. Have a good weekend.

Sewing on Tuesday Night

Last Tuesday night was a busy night down at the library. Here is Barbara...sewing on her featherweight...making nine patch squares.
Sandra Hadley finished her paper pieced pineapple quilt. Love those colors....all she has to do is sew on the borders.
Joan Adams made this scrap cat quilt.....all out of her stash. Good quilt for a cat lover and uses up scraps.
In March Jill Schumache gave a workshop on using your sewing machine to machine quilt your quilts. A few of the gals from the guild went to Sacramento and took her class on how to mark a quilt top. They took a completed top and she helped them decide what design to quilt it with. Here is Dianah's Christmas mystery quilt and she's marking the top so its ready to quilt.
The large tables at the library make it easy to mark a quilt top.....you don't have to get on the floor on your hands and knees to make a quilt. Can't wait to see this quilt when its all done.
I did work on my mystery quilt on Tuesday night.....did a little sewing and finished step 2....now I'm cutting and cutting for step three. Lots of sewing to do on step three. I'm glad Memorial Day weekend is coming up....with the price of gas.....I think I'll stay home and sew. Try and get caught up and ready for June's step in the mystery quilt.

Ladybug's Quilts

I had shopping to do in Manteca on Saturday morning and then I remembered.....the new quilt shop is open. So I visited the quilt store first before I did my other shopping.

Nice shop.....lots of light, good location.
This is painted on the wall of one of the rooms.....cool.
One of the rooms is the reading room with books and patterns.
Here is the fabric panel I bought.....to make baby quilts as I know a couple of gals who are going to have babies this year.

If you are in Manteca go check out the new quilt store.

Oakdale Quilt Guild Presidents Challenge 2008

Sheryl de Leon won the Presidents Challenge last night with this beautiful vest. The fabric we were given was the fabric used for the mermaid's hair. Good job Sheryl!Below is my entry......I came in second. The fabric looked like trees to me.
Here is a closer view of Sheryl's vest.
She painted the face and skin......wow.
I need to learn how to do this kind of painting.
Its Friday again.....will be working on my mystery quilt....catching up. Happy Mothers Day to all the mothers who read my blog.

Need Help With A Quilting Problem

Lue-Anne was at the Tuesday night sew last night and showed us her latest quilt. Its a surprise for her husband. A John Deer quilt. See below. She just got it back from being machine quilted.

Lue-Anne wants to attach prairie points to the edge of a quilt that is already quilted. How do you go about doing it. Do you just sew on the prairie points and then the binding....will the points then hang down around the quilt? If you know the answer please leave a comment below.

A close up of Lue-Anne's quilt below.
Part of the Tuesday group can be seen below......that my sewing machine on the left.... the black 301a....Judy's sewing machine is to the right of my machine...... sewed on my mystery quilt and have got all of April's steps done.....YEA! Now to start on May's steps and get it done.

Too Many Four Patches

Worked on the mystery quilt from Quilters Cabin.......first had to cut 1 1/2 inch strips then sew them together to make 80 four patches. Finished last night and have half of them ironed.

That's a lot of four patches......and I have a few extra. I will continue working on this project tonight at the Tuesday sew. My plan is to catch up before June 1 when the next step will be out.

New Manteca Quilt Store to Open

Happy Friday! The news is out...... the new quilt store, Ladybug Quilts in Manteca is going to open on May 6 (Tuesday) at 10:00 a.m. The store is located on Landcaster, turn from North Main onto Landcaster and then turn left into the quilt shop parking lot. Its is in the strip of shops located behind the Straw Hat Pizza. This is what the Manteca Quilters have been waiting for a new quilt shop. Lets all go and support our fabric, pattern and book habits and visit the store and buy....buy....buy!

I plan on working on my mystery quilt this weekend and pick up the May instructions at Quilters Cabin. I don't have April done yet.....I'm so behind! Have a good weekend and mark Tuesday for shopping at Ladybug Quilts on your calendar.
