PIQ 2007 More Pictures

There were so many beautiful and inspiring quilts at Pacific International. You can't help but want to go home and sew! Here is another cool picture quilt.

I did take a few pictures of regular quilts.......love this one.
Here is a close up. The fabric used was a fabric printed with buttons on it. The same print fabric was used and because of the different buttons on it looks different in each square of fabric.
Look at the rocks in this quilt picture.
A close up of the rocks.
I love this way the frame on this quilt is done.
Jelly fish.....love the colors.
Now who do I know who loves pink birds....this one is for Barbara.
The way the fruit is captured in this picture......and the quilting.
The thread painting on this quilt goes out into the black border around it......beautiful.
Chicken and sunflowers......lots of quilting on this quilt.
I have my bear class tonight......we get to stuff and stuff our bears.....fun. More pictures of PIQ tomorrow.

Sunday's Mystery Class

The internet was down yesterday here so I couldn't post about my Sunday mystery class with Debi. What fun! The picture below is all my many, many red 4 1/2 inch squares......that was all I brought to class.....this class included all the rest of the fabric that was needed to finish the quilt. See the black and white fabric...what is this going to be?

Here are the blocks all sewn and I'm starting to lay out the quilt. You really have to pay attention and get the blocks in the right place. I only had to un sew once! Two blocks in the middle of the quilt after it was sewn together...boo.
Here is my quilt with the first two borders on it....we got to pick the fabric we wanted to use in the borders. I did finish my quilt in class. I will take a picture of the finished quilt tonight at the Tuesday sew. I am very happy with the way my red and black quilt turned out.
Below is a quilt one of the ladies in the class brought......Cloth and Quilt is having a strip class every month.....2 1/2 inch strips seem to be the latest thing in the quilting world. I really like this quilt.
More blocks from the strip class......in pink.
Debi was sewing right along with the class......she's using brights.....now Debi is not a bright fabric person....so this is unusual. You get a whole different look with brights.
More of the lay out using brights.
Rita had some pinwheel black and red blocks left over from another project......so she used them. It turned out beautiful.
Debi's finished quilt.......draped over a chair.
It was a fun class....we walked over to a Mexican restaurant for lunch and still finished our quilts. Thanks Debi for such a fun class and I now have a red and black quilt.

Tonight starts the teddy bear class that Manteca Quilters is having on Tuesday night. I hope to get lots done tonight. I'll be taking pictures......so stay turned.

X Block Workshop

The Workshop on Saturday was loads of fun......see Patricia Pepe teaching us below. She went around to every person who attended and checked out our fabric choice and what pattern we were about to make. I really learned from listening to her talk to each quilter.

Here's part of the group......working on their projects.
This was a full class......so lots of people working hard on their x block design.
Close up of Patricia......teaching.
Here is my fabric choice.......looks OK....but I think I need more contrast.
Here are some of the blocks I sewed on Saturday......too dark. But I learned....what to do....what colors to use.
Sandy came in and brought this quilt she made for a wedding.
The following pictures are from Saturday's class.....the blocks that quilters made that day. Really love the blocks below.....very scrappy.

I can't remember which block belongs to who.....but I do remember that this blue one is made by Lou-Anne......beautiful.

Lots of ribbon star's were made......the x block is an easy way to make a complicated looking quilt.

X Block Workshop Tomorrow

Last night Patricia Pepe gave the program at our (Manteca) membership meeting. Today and tomorrow Patricia is teaching a workshop, X Block... for Manteca quilters. Today is the beginner class and tomorrow is the advanced class. I am taking the advanced class. Below is the latest pattern that you can make with two different sizes of the X block ruler. The stars are made with a 3 inch ruler and the stripes with either the 6 or 7 inch ruler. Cool.

Here is a popular pattern made with the ruler......you make a 9 patch block with light fabric in the middle of the 9 patch and dark on both sides.....then you re-cut the block and lay it out and you have this wonderful quilt.
A small X block used in the center of a 9 patch block.
A different color way for the X block above....love the batik's used.
Here is a small X block quilt.
Blue and Yellow.....
A very fall looking x block.
Black and white made with the x block.
The possibles are endless......class is going to be fun tomorrow.
